Great start to the season for Ross on Wye Ladies HC

Saturday 29th September saw Ross on Wye Ladies take on Lansdown 2nds away in their first game of the season captained by Jess E. The first half of the game saw Ross take an early lead with Becki W scoring the first goal. The midfield included Kim C and Ella B who fought hard passing the ball out to wing players Martha S and Lucy P. Lucy managed to score the 2nd goal from a great pass across the D from Becki. As Lansdown got into their stride a lot of pressure was put on the defenders Mia C and Cal C, challenging them to take back possession. The defending duo Charlie Y and Holly B is a force to be reckoned with as they controlled the players well and would clear away any dangerous balls played.
As Ross entered the second half of the game, captain Jess E knew they had to play a smart game as the sun was beating down, and pace of play was tiring for both sides. This didn’t stop Lucy P from scoring a quick second goal. Substitutions were then made, and Erika R worked some great plays up in the attacking circle and won Ross an attacking short corner. The short corner saw Lucy strike at goal and hit a defender and was awarded a penalty flick. If Lucy scored it would be her first hat trick, alas the Lansdown goalie was too fast and experienced.
Lansdown then worked hard in attack and put pressure on Ross goalie keeper Kate W. Kate managed a few spectacular saves but Lansdown drove on and they managed to score a great goal that flew past both Kate and Kim. The next play saw the newest player to join the team, Naomi S and Becki W work their way up the pitch to score the 4th and final goal for Ross.
Captain Jess E said “hopefully this gives us all the positive mind set for the weeks to come. Some good play today even for the first game back. Plenty for us to practice in training for next weeks game.” The team awarded Naomi S as their player of the match, for her great effort and strength in her first game for the club.
The next game for Ross Ladies is at home at John Kyle High School, 12 pushback. Training takes places at JKHS on a Tuesday night 8-9pm open to ladies over the age of 13, and all abilities are welcome if you’d like to give hockey a try.
